INTRODUCTION

 

The Clothing Industry Bargaining Council (CIBC) is a statutory body created under the Labour Relations Act (LRA) 66/1995 to provide for the self-governance and self-regulation of the clothing and textile industries. In terms of the LRA, bargaining councils are issued with a Certificate of Registration (section 29) and operate in terms of a constitution (section 30), which is approved by the Registrar of Labour Relations.

The CIBC is registered with the Department of Labour under registration number LR 2/6/6/154.

Under the LRA, the CIBC is accredited to perform dispute resolution functions, which are handled by the Labour Affairs department

The CIBC is a secretariat, which provides the necessary administrative infrastructure and facilities to carry out its core functions, as well as collective bargaining, compliance management, dispute resolution

 

 

 

OUR STRUCTURE

 

With a regional office (Cape Town), 4 business units, i.e. Benefit Administration, Finance, Labour Affairs, Information Systems and a Health Care Fund with clinics situated in Atlantis, Elsies River, Belhar, Athlone Mitchells Plain, Grassy Park and Salt River, the CIBC’s 130 employees possess a high level of technical expertise to deal with a myriad of functions. 

The Regional Secretary of the Council (Western Cape Chamber) is Mr. A Davids.

 

 

 

FUNDING

 

As a registered bargaining council in accordance with the Labour Relations Act, the CIBC’s activities on behalf of the industry are funded by an administration levy payable by industry employers and employees.
